Hench's Hawaiian Holiday! - Day 5

HenchPAC Exclusive - 12/19/04

Kona Country Club! I love this place! Matt gets us a prime early morning tee-time, and away we go before Hench has to say away he goes.

Here's Matt and his new employee Carey on one of the many tee boxes with a view of the Pacific on the Kona CC Mountain course. This is my kind of course, with steeply sloping fairways, wildly undulating greens and blind shots. Unfortunately, the course found me to be it's kind of golfer, I struggled and handed a big wad of cash to Mattman. The highlight of the day (and maybe our lifetime) was the 12th hole. We all made the green in regulation, but all had nasty birdie putts of at least 30 feet to a pin located on the crown of a hog's back. Yep, 1-2-3, we all made them, Hench from 40 feet plus, Carey from at least 35 feet, and Matt from 30 plus. I figure the odds at 1-in-50,000. Sometimes the Golf Gods smile upon you. Just not often enough for us!

The daunting 17th. 209 yards over the lake, into the breeze. Yes, that's your heart you're having to swallow.

The conquering General stands proud. Another greenie par on a difficult par three for Hench, ho-hum!

Yep, I had more fun than a geek is allowed to have, and I have to thank Matt and Shirley Briley for their hospitality, camaraderie, and of course, for putting up with me for a whole week. If I'm lucky, they'll forget what a dork I am, I'll catch them in a good mood, and talk them into inviting me back. Mahalo and Aloha!
